Space is Big

“Space is big. You just won’t believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it is a long way down the road to the chemist’s, but that is just peanuts to space.” Douglas Adams - Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy

This is just too good not to share. Dries Buytaert, whose blog is not typically about space, has posted a fabulous illustration that really shows just how “mind-bogglingly big” space is. It would be interesting to add Himiko to the chart too!

A full-size mockup of NASA’s Orion crew exploration vehicle will be on display tomorrow (March 30) on the National Mall in front of the National Air and Space Museum. The mockup is en route to Florida following water testing near Bethesda. According to NASA, the goal of the test is to determine the kind of motions an astronaut crew can expect after landing, as well as conditions outside for the recovery team.  NASA engineers and personnel will be available all day at the National Mall event to answer questions about the Orion crew module and the Constellation program.

Welcome

Posted by SpaceSightSeer on January 1, 2009 under Discussion | Be the First to Comment

Welcome to Space Images Online! After rebuilding this site in 2006 and struggling to maintain it, it became clear that all of this great information I wanted to share was really better suited for a blog. I’ve redesigned the site, checked all of the links and hope that you find it to be useful.

I have alwys found that the best space images seem to be scattered to the winds. The space agencies of the world have their share, as do many of their contractors. There are great sites behyond NASA and the United States and their are treasures to be found among amateur space enthusiasts.

Whether you are a teacher loking for photos for a space unit or someone who like the latest “cool pics”, this is the place for you. Feel free to pass along suggestions, let me know if links are broken, and chime in about the stuff you like.

Thanks for visiting!
